Welded Walls

About Welded Walls: Welded wire basket walls are made with a basket structure shaped like an “L” and struts that provide structural support. In order to create gravity mass, these basket structures are tied back into the soil using a geotextile grid. They can then be filled with open-graded stone or with soil which would enable plants to grow. Welded walls offer significant advantages over competitive products as welded wire holds its shape and does not bulge. Spiral binders allow even pre-assembled wire wall units to be shipped flat. This saves space and reduces associated freight costs. As with any construction project, the site must be properly prepared and care must be taken to ensure that the backfill is compacted according to the engineering directives.

Design Considerations:  Welded wire walls will revegetate spontaneously; they may be seeded or planted with desirable species. Welded wire walls are perfectly suited for use either as temporary structures during other construction operations or as permanent retaining walls.


When to Use:
  These walls are generally cheaper than modular block walls but consume more space on site, since they angle back towards the slope at a 4:1 slope, as opposed to a modular block, which is typically 8:1. Ideal for gravity wall structures and slope stabilization, welded wire wall systems are filled only with compacted soil, not rock. These units can be used in much the same way as gabions for retaining walls or like gabion mattresses to retain soil on slopes but are also perfectly suited to construction of a flush-face vertical structure.
