About Gabion Walls:  Gabion basket walls are typically used by civil engineers in the fight against erosion. Gabions are commonly used to fortify and stabilize streambanks, as baffles for detention ponds.  Gabion basket walls are gravity walls that are constructed of steel baskets filled with large stone.  The large stone in the baskets gives the wall enough mass to withstand the impact of water which can slow down the water in some cases or prevent erosion in other cases.  The gabion baskets are the bottom of the wall are the largest and they get smaller as you near the top.  The design of the gabion basket system will depend on the application and contributing pressures of the earth behind the wall.  Gabion basket walls can also be constructed as “free-standing” if the application calls for it.
