Retaining Wall Types

Modular Block Walls

MSE walls retain backfill soil to stabilize steep slopes and do not require formwork or additional work on the facing. Their main advantage over reinforced concrete walls is quick construction and the ease of installation.

Wire Basket Walls

Welded wire basket walls are made with a basket structure shaped like an “L” and struts that provide structural support. They can be filled with open-graded stone or with soil which would enable plants to grow.

Gabion Basket Walls

Gabions are typically used by civil engineers in the fight against erosion. Gabions can fortify shorelines, be used as temporary floodwalls or dams, and can be used to direct the flow of floodwater.

Gravity Walls

Gravity walls are landscaping walls that depend on their mass by leaning toward retained soil to resist any pressure from behind it. Short gravity walls are typically made from mortarless stone or masonry units (concrete).

Helical Anchors

A helical retaining wall uses anchors, or tiebacks for stability. This process ensures that the wall will not lean and will allow for excavation near the edge of a foundation without causing structural damages.

Rubble Walls

Rubble retaining walls are made using recycled concrete and stonework. Stones or slabs of various sizes are fitted together to make a unique yet aesthetically pleasing wall that will blend in to the landscape around it.
